Parents, Friends and Families,
¡Bienvenidos a nuestra clase de Español!
Welcome to our Spanish class!
I am writing to share with you an awesome opportunity about the journey into our new unit in our Spanish class titled “Spanish Across Borders”. I am quite excited to say that the students will be digging into a more culturally aware and comprehensive sense of what it means to be multicultural that’ll promote self-esteem amongst students. We will address the overall concept of culture and how its values, standards and beliefs vary across Latin American with a commonality of Spanish.
I’m excited to let you all know that we will be exploring all variations of Spanish throughout Latin America and will be getting to know different cultures and their importance in self-identity. This will engage students and give students the opportunities to build relationships across borders and be able to hold real life conversations online (pen pal virtually) rather than reading conversations given in textbooks! They will also engage in a research assignment based on the country they choose to explore more about: culture, language, etc. Students will be creating a blog in which they will present to their classmates to better help us all understand the country better. Each student will have a country of their choosing to research and investigate for their final project.
As a way of making this curriculum as authentic as possible to my students, I am extending the opportunity to have you in our class to be able to dialogue with the students. I will also be inviting community members who, perhaps, can promote oral history into our lesson as well. Our classroom is composed of very diverse students and I am looking forward to bringing you all into our classroom for 15/20 minutes. Once blogs are completed I will be sharing it with all of you via email. You will be able to view the work that the students would have created throughout the unit. Lastly, I will also like to extend an invitation to come to our classroom and get a taste of Latin America when the students present their final projects. Your presence will be greatly appreciated and I am certain the students will love to see the support
Please let me know if you are willing to participate in these interviews for our students. Also, let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the unit we will be starting next week as I look forward to learning along with my students.
Hasta pronto,
Ms. Rodríguez
